In this new year 2019, it seems that France finally wants to stand out as an attractive venue in the field of contemporary design. Indeed, promoting the young design scene, Maison&Objet and Paris Deco Off 2019 have probably given their best editions so far, and this is only the beginning... A look at the most remarkable furniture and objects.
Designers duo POOL Studio worked closely with theFrançois Pouenat workshop to present an unusual collection that was badly needed. Indeed, it is by carefully emphasizing the metalworking of the workshop, that the designers have imagined sculptural pieces which once again, make it possible to turn the spotlight on the young design scene.
In addition to drawing pieces like the Schnikschnakshelf, the raw metal desk Barrel and the great vase-sculpture series AssemblagesPOOL Studio guided the designers Fredrik Paulsen, Fabien Cappello and Paul Loebach on the artistic direction of the pieces imagined by the latter to enlarge the collection. All the furniture presented put forward a simple and incredibly well done metal patina, and are all borrowed from a simple design, efficient, formal and with clean finishes. Thus, Fabien Cappello designed the Tubo, at a minimal pace and especially very timeless. Fredrik Paulsen also joined the ranks with two key pieces: the Rorcoffee table and bench, and Paul Loeback drew a table with a perfect balance between marble and metal.
A collection that will undoubtedly join the ranks of the collectible design family, in France for once, at the Paris deco Off.
Ornamental metalworker and well-known high-end furniture publisher, it is common to see the Pouenat Gallery in the landscape of Parisian design events. At this edition of Paris Deco Off 2019In addition, the publisher has presented new projects by French designers, who are as well known as the gallery itself.
Thus, we could see the beginnings of what Pouenat is preparing for Milan, with designs of Stéphane Parmentier as for example the Idéale coffee table and its travertine top. Another regular in the gallery, Damien Langlois-Meurinne also helped to renew the collection with several pieces, including these Dancing With The Stars sconces that we like very much. Finally, the interior designer and architect Jean-Louis Deniot designed this sculptural and very appealing Astraeosbench, with contemporary and singular lines.
On the occasion of this new edition of Maison&Objet of January 2019, the English-Italian duo Giapato&Coombes has shown several creations, some of which were seen at Milan in 2018. Thus, the masterful suspension was seen DewdropsThe collection consists of a light brass structure and blown glass globes. We also rediscovered the Supernatural DaydreamExperimentation is the key word...
Parisian duo HAOS returns this year to present their 2nd Collection. Inspired by the warm and woody atmosphere of the 1950s, designers have created a series of functional and highly graphic objects and furniture. In fact, composed of cherry wood and ceramics, a bench and a stool get the ball rolling of this brand new collection, followed closely by a chromed metal candleholder series, and stackable according to a magnetic assembly technique.
If you have watched the latest edition of DesignMiami/Then you will have recognized the work of Hongjie Yang. As usual, the designer works with aluminium and bronze in the collection Radical Fossils in order to give them a duality of shaping: namely a raw side as the beautiful part of nature, and another side ostensibly machined and designed by man. Once again, very nice pieces.
The stand of the young furniture publisher Houtique was neat to watch, always playing colors, even when it comes to space design. Indeed, leading products but also new variations and colors available were presented. This is how we found the pieces drawn by the famous duo Masquespacio: the suspension Wink – now available in floor and wall light versions – the armchair Mambo or the chair Arco, is also available with new colors.
Design studio llot llov was also present at this edition of Maison&Objet. A presence of good omen, if once again we talk about the show going more contemporary... The studio Berliner has shown us their new Geo Cut Vasescollection, available in several colors, the small piece of furniture Nap and the amazing terrazzo table lamp, Glacier. With a work in permanent search for emotional and functional, designers are once again well noticed for their efficient designs.
On the occasion of the show, the lifestyle and home decor brand Lrnce has unveiled new products that have joined the ranks of an already highly coveted collection. This year, we discovered a sculptural wooden stool, new ottomans and cushions, but also ceramic table lamps and a new mirror which this time, is adorned with elements of tapestry. The brand asserts itself again in a bohemian-chic aesthetic and is moving more and more towards decor objects and furniture, which is fine with us!
In Maison&Objet, it is not uncommon to make new and happy discoveries. This is how we met Mondo Marmo, and their successful collaboration with designer Charlotte Taylor. The brand presented a series of decorative accessories such as mirrors and vases, in marble and terrazzo, all designed by the English artist and designer. Very nice products.
Italian designers Sara Fortin and Gianluca Bocchetta joined forces to create a collection of minimal home accessories and furniture: Muta¹ Collezione Minima. We particularly liked their chair of a mighty rose, and which, thanks to this color, managed to hold its own among all the stuff that was at Maison&Objet. Inspired by the furniture lines of the American bars of the 60s, this chair nevertheless offers contemporary and minimalist lines, and which can be part of all types of projects, from residential to hotel lobbies.
The range of playful hanging lamps Junit by Schneid Lighting recently dressed with new colors, duly presented on the design show. In fact, from a colorful range of pink, oranges and many others, the collection has moved to much softer tones, including wood in their new designs and neutral tones. Luminaires are still interactive, but these new shades are sure to have a renewed impact on the world of interior design.
Design studio and manufacturing workshop SkLO roots in California but also in the Czech Republic. On the occasion of Maison&Objet 2019designers Karen Gilbert and Paul Pavlak have presented their new collection of objects, introducing in particular the Crescent Vessel and View Bowlseries. Both composed of colorful glass in two parts, these elements blown thanks to the traditional technique of shaping glass, offer a little peace of dream, with total simplicity... Beautiful products.
Finally, it was impossible to miss the stand of Tom Dixon. First of all because as usual, the brand of home decor and design studio created for the occasion a booth of remarkable architecture. All dressed with black and white shades, the space took advantage of simple graphical and geometric forms in order to highlight its products. Then, speaking of products, the brand presented a lot of novelties in terms of decorative objects, as well as vessels or functional kitchen stuff.
In particular, we have noticed the Blockcollection, a sculptural series of immaculate ceramics, offering vases and some vessel elements. And finally the Swirlseries, graphic and highly decorative and which owes its singular look to the dust recycling of the marble industry. Swirl offers cool bookends, candleholders and a vase. A high level Tom Dixon's art.
Design studio Urbancraft and its founder Ximi Li have recently been rewarded as part of the six emerging talents of China to monitor closely. At Maison&Objetthe studio exhibited several projects including the coffee table set BY3which will undoubtedly have caught your attention. Indeed, three shapes and three materials - terrazzo, glass and marble - that comprise the collection, and which, flexible, can be assembled or presented separately. We have also focused our attention on the collection Yuan, a set of small functional furniture, a table lamp and a wall lighting, and whose delicate design is made not to alter the space, but on the contrary to be in complete harmony with it. Good work.
