FAIRS AND DESIGN WEEKS 6283 ViewsAD Design Show 2019: Best designs and new exhibitors by Chloé Valette 2 years ago AD Design Show 2019 (on behalf of Architectural Digest Magazine), took place during the last four days in New York. On this occasion, the famous MADEsection, prized by young designers and contemporary design connoisseurs and enthusiasts, once again featured very beautiful designs as well as some new and not insignificant exhibitors. Real inspirational place and sourcing platform for years for New York interior designers, find out the best pieces exhibited at AD Show, which you should definitely remember. AD Design Show 2019 Anony The pendant lighting Phase Chandelier by Anony borrows lightness and grace of suspended mobiles. Alternatively showing different stages and formal appearances of the circle – a sphere, a disc and a melted semi-circle – this airy and hand-finished graphic suspension seems to have found the perfect balance. Thanks to these geometric shapes, the light swing of the luminaire is harmonious and its presence is highly poetic. Ara Thorose Designer Ara Thorose, exhibited for the first time at AD Design Show, presented his Soft Cylinders, consisting of three chairs and a coffee table. All of them consist of a single tube lined with fabric to form the entire structure, yet each piece is different. On the occasion of the show, the American designer also announced the launch of Soft Limits, his furniture consumer brand. Campagna The series of minimalist furniture and functional Campagna, New York design studio founded by Cody Campanie, was born from the in-depth study of everyday life. Indeed, the designer is committed to producing beautiful objects that last a lifetime, based on the interaction of forms related to acts. Clean architectural furniture, the collection presented at this edition of the AD Design Show embrace willingly discretion and elegance ... durodeco Design studio durodeco, composed of architect Rachel Robinson and engineer Michael Dunham, creates furniture and decorative objects of a timeless style. On the occasion of this year edition, the duo presented the Strata mirror and table and the modular low tables Radius. The Strata table is a beautiful piece and displays a strong contrast between black wood legs and two tiered layers of acid-etched, ultraclear glass. As for Radius, it offers the possibility to choose the final form of the set with different combinations. Ingenious. Facture Studio If you liked the collection that Facture Studio presented last year, no doubt that you're going to fully enjoy Ripple, the latest collection from the Studio. Having swapped mezmerizing green for calm blue this time, the collection offers a set consisting of a table and stools, a wall mirror, a lounge chair and a wall lamp. Increasingly exploiting the incredible properties of the resin, designer Quincy Ellis is always moving forward in exploring the border between art and design. Good job. Hamilton Holmes The collection Black Arts of designer Nicholas Hamilton Holmes is the result of woodworking in different forms and formal applications. All of them are tinted in a deep black, and each piece results in a pure and effective functionality. However, Canadian designer's taste for beautiful and precious things is nevertheless reflected in his work, displaying rich and neat finishes. Finally, we notice the clear intention to put the traditional crafstmanship forward, moreover, the chairs appear to us almost as coming from a past era, but deeply remastered... Kin and Company Just like the latest edition of AD Design Show, it was impossible to miss out on the work of studio Kin and Company. It is on a stand adorned with an iridescent wallpaper of Wallpaper Projects giving it cool depth, that the designers presented their latest creation: the Slip Mirror in peach, the extraordinary Thin Shelf (single and double) and the coffee table Wave. All are part of the Spring collection, which began at the fair. Each element that composes it highlights simple geometric shapes and a minimalist design, whose American designers knew how to make the most of rich textured surfaces. Ambassadors of metalworking, cousins Kira de Paola and Joseph Vidich pay tribute to materiality. Malcolm Majer Malcolm Majer is undoubtedly one of the revelations of the year in the field of collectible design, on the American side. Indeed, if we have supported the work of the designer since we know about it, it is always a pleasure to see his experimental chairs stand out. Reinventing the fundamentals of classical furniture forms, Malcolm makes his contribution to design with a complete collection with incredible finishes. We love everything. Michael Felix Michael Felix comes from the third generation of designers, and whose mastery of traditional manufacturing techniques, is today worth it to innovate. Showcased at this edition of AD Design Show, the coffee table Gaspar shows a feat both in terms of design and implementation. Composed of two granite elements at the perfect junction, this piece at the strong and singular design does not forget the functional aspect, allowing to be able to store objects and magazines inside... Very nice work. Ocrùm Among the new exhibitors of the show there was also Ocrùm, a young New York brand with a simple and delicate aesthetic. We particularly appreciate the mirrors Orizon in two shades and two materials, that Creative Director of the brand Sean Zhang worked according to reliefs at narrative aspect that reinvent this kind of everyday objects pretty well. We also notice the presence of the very light ceiling lamp Dew + Drop, of which touching fragility contributes to the effectiveness of design. Simon Johns According to the principle of the collection Shale presented at the show last year, Simon Johns presented two new pieces: the Shale Mirror, but also the Ledge Console. Both made from solid ash wood carved and broken in order to obtain this raw aspect, like broken stone, recalls the universe of full nature in which the Quebec designer's studio is located. The Diamond Table is also a novelty, the first table of the designer, it displays a base at the sculptural design made of polished aluminum and oak wood. As for the wall sconce Fold, whose name speaks for itself, it displays simple and complex design at the same time, highlighting the metal very well. Soft Geometry Studio Soft Geometry exhibited for the first time at the AD Design Show. On this occasion, the duo presented Dessert Menu, a collection literally inspired from the making of desserts and sweets... The designers studied solid wood to transform the perception that one can have, always bringing it closer to the raw material of which a coveted dessert is made. Real "sugar" architectures to the enticing simplicity! Tantuvi Tantuvi draws inspiration from the landscapes and colors of the Thar Desert in India, where they are carefully made with respect for ancestral techniques. The brand and its creator, Arati Rao, are committed to offer colorful, joyful and easily adaptable products. On the occasion of this edition of AD show, Tantuvi has presented contemporary rugs of the collection Kulfi in wool version for the first time, as since its debut, the brand has been mostly working on cotton and hemp. Nice ones. Trey Jones Studio Designer Trey Jones was also there and presented in particular his brand new Bookscape coffee table. Highly functional, this table has been studied by the designer in order to meet every need that one might have regarding this type of furniture. Exhibiting, arranging and putting are the keywords that give life to this element of wood and marble to the minimalist and very effective design. VOLK VOLK Studio presented a mix of products from the 2017 and 2018 collections. We have mostly paid attention to the St . Charles collection, high in color and very graphic, which is the perfect invitation to the customization of each element. A collection with an approach to contemporary design peaceful but sparkling, to which the designer and founder Brian Volk-Zimmerman has been able to give accents of elegance all in simplicity. Nice work. Vonnegut/Kraft Finally, the Brooklyn-based design studio Vonnegut/Kraft presented to the AD Design Show a stand in partnership with the ceramicist Natalie Weinberger. If both have presented works on their own (Relevé Stools and Kana Chair among others for Vonnegut/Kraft), they also partnered in the creation of a new project: the Pastilles Tables, with a glass glaze ceramic top in two colors. These occasional tables, of which legs play with the notion of full and empty, pay tribute to the work of Josef Hoffmann, one of the undisputed master of modernism. ➡ Be awesome, LIKE and SHARE!T H A N K S Share this:TwitterFacebook TAGS:design news 2019AD Design ShowAD show 2019AnonyAra ThoroseArchitectural DigestCampagnaCody Campaniecollectible designdesign collectorAmerican Designcontemporary designUnited States designfurniture design 2019Design New YorkCanadian designer'sQuebec DesignerAmerican designersdurodecoFacture StudioJosef HoffmannJoseph Vidich and Kira de PaolaJulia Haney MontanezKin and CompanyMADE New York 2019Malcolm MajerMichael FelixmodernismNicholas Hamilton HolmesOcrùmQuincy EllisSalon Design New YorkSimon JohnsSoft GeometryTantuviTrey Jones StudioVOLK furnitureVonnegut/Kraft Written by Chloé ValetteChloé founded Huskdesignblog in 2016.
